North Bend State Park
April 25-26, 2009 (page 1)
The weekend began Friday when Ken Apacki and Eddie McKee reserved four campsites at the North Bend State Park. The campground was great, with facilities nearby. Geese were a little noisy in the morning, but it beat car horns and exhaust.
Here are a couple pictures of the camping area. The campground was scenic, with a stream flowing next to our site. A pond was close by if you had the notion to throw a line in the water.
Ken and Eddie rode the rail trail from Parkersburg towards North Bend on Friday. Most of the group arrived later Friday or Saturday morning.
For those that didn't have to test out their new camp stoves, the lodge provided some early morning nourishment. The doors open for breakfast at 7am. The hike from campsite to lodge got the heart started.
Shawn was obviously already pumped and ready for the ride.
Here's a group photo just prior to Saturday's departure.

The temperature was hot all weekend. Even my thermometer, which, according to Cheryl, indicates 5 degrees less than it should be, registered in the mid to upper 90's all day, hitting 100+ when stopped at rest areas. The wind seemed to be in our face for the majority of the trip. Regardless of the heat, the scenery was outstanding. I believe that everyone looked forward to riding through the dark tunnels, just to get a cool break from the heat.
